Obituary for Johnie Justice
Johnie Justice - 1921-2009 Johnie Justice, 87, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born May 25, 1921, in Mingo County, W.Va., a son of the late William Smith Justice and Millie Burchett Justice Sherman.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Burchett Justice, in 1970; a brother, Andrew Jackson Justice; and sisters Angie Hinkle and Nora Hinkle.
He began working at the age of 15 on the state highway. He later retired from Island Creek Coal Co. after 26 years of service and also retired from Kentucky Electric Steel. He was owner and operator of J.J. Restaurant in Ashland for 50 years.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Tabernacle in Flatwoods, Ky., where he was head deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Before moving to Ashland, he had been a deacon at the Pentecostal Church of God in Delbarton, W.Va.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Wireman Justice of Ashland; a son, Timothy Justice of Ashland; two brothers, William Paris Smith Justice and Thurman Philip Justice, both of Ashland; four sisters, Elizabeth Ann Tiller of Delbarton, Mary Jane Daugherty of Chatteroy, W.Va., Ethel Rife of Delbarton and Emma Paige Hinkle of Delbarton; and two grandsons, Shane Justice and Ryan Justice, and their mother, Patricia L. Justice, all of Ashland.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Lloyd Bailey and the Rev. Eugene Haney. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, April 24, 2009, at the funeral home.
